I keep admiring the wildflowers that I see around here. Some are long established wildflower patches, others have been deliberately seeded on patches of land near peoples houses, and others have been scattered among more cultivated flowers in gardens.

According to his article it’s happening all over the country, doing a little tiny bit to help the environment. The presence of lots of clover flowers in our garden, keeping the bees busy, is providing Phil with an excuse not to cut the grass. Not that he could cut it at the moment as it is too wet.

I was rained on again out running this morning. The day keeps trying to improve. We shall see.

I popped into the local co-op store for a couple of items. Coming out I was almost bowled over by a young man rushing in. Two ladies at the bus stop remonstrated with him, pointing put that there was already a queue waiting to go in and, besides, why was he not wearing a mask? He mumbled an apology to all and sundry. I’m not surprised at his mask confusion. We are definitely getting mixed messages about face coverings. I think I’ll continue wearing mine in shops and on buses and the like.

Here’s a comment on mask wearing from someone on social media:-

“The wearing of masks will no longer be compulsory, as we wish to give people more freedom.

What used to be legitimate protest will now be punishable by 10 years in prison.

This government on the same day.”

No further comment needed.

The two ladies at the bus stop told me they fully expect another lockdown. “People have been dancing on buses in Uppermill”, one told me. “They’re going freedom crazy”. Goodness! Meanwhile, people are rushing to get vaccinated so they can go on holiday. I read that some vaccination centres have had to ask for police protection after staff have been threatened by the vaccine-hunting public. When did we become that sort of society?

The pub next door to our house is open again after a recent covid closure. There is a big sign inviting people to book a table to watch tomorrow’s football - three large screens inside and one outside. I suspect the car park garden area will get a little noisy tomorrow evening.

Here’s another little gem from social media:

“New rule: every time someone tweets ‘it’s coming home’, one artefact from the British Museum shall be returned to the place it was stolen.”

An interesting idea!

Here’s another:

“Since we’re giving NHS staff the George Cross instead of a pay rise, we should give Tory donors a Blue Peter badge instead of multi-billion pound contracts.”

If we can have government by metaphor, why not government by tweets? Wait a minute, didn’t someone already try that?

Life goes on. Stay safe and well, everyone!
