Friday adventuring! In and out of the rain!

Yesterday we consulted the oracle, aka my local weather app, and decided that the %age chance of rain was reasonably favourable for a bit of an outing today. Some of the family had the day off work, the smallest member of the family had a music and movement group to go to but that would be over by 11.00 and his big sister would be in school but we should have time to do a bit of a walk in the meantime.

I ran round the village first thing and the sun was trying to break through - a good sign. Later in the morning I caught a bus - just in time - to go to Uppermill and meet granddaughter number two. Together we walked up to meet her mother as she exited Boomting, the toddlers’ music group. By then it was raining. This was a nuisance as it was really not forecast until late afternoon. So we went for coffee and a snack, hoping it would pass over. Which it eventually did.

Then we walked up the hill, past the turnoff for the swimming baths and taking the next right turn which led to some rough steps up to a bridle path, another of those old railway lines, of which there are several around here, now tree-lined and in this case recently resurfaced with sandy gravel. The little chap searched for robins

and found dens under trees

before finally giving in and taking a ride in his buggy. We admired the flora and fauna - mostly flora!

The bridle path would have led us eventually to Diggle but we were not going that far today.

We turned off and followed a private road - private to cars but not to walkers for once - until we came out on the main road back into Uppermill. The views were rather fine.

As were the undoubtedly very expensive houses."We need a lottery win", speculated my daughter."Or a rich, previously unknown relative needs to die and leave us pots of money", speculated my granddaughter.

We were headed for my daughter’s parked car so she could drop me off at home, but as went through the square in Uppermill as 350 bus handily turned up. So I hopped on the bus and was probably home before the rest of them had reached the parked car. All good.

Life goes on. Stay safe and well, everyone!
