Granddaughter Number One and I did quite a lot of travelling around on buses today. This may seem like a big deal but her anxiety problems make public transport difficult for her. She had an appointment with a physiotherapy specialist at the big health centre in Oldham. From her house we had worked out we needed a bus into Ashton bus station and then another from there to Oldham bus station. The big health centre is right next door to Oldham bus station, so there should have been no problems.
Well, the first bus failed to show at all and we had to wait for the next one, some 20minutes later. Then the bus from Ashton to Oldham was about 10 minutes late. Not good for the stress levels of an anxious and reluctant bus-passenger with a deadline to meet. We had thought that our travels might have to be shared with lots of school children but this was not the case until the very final stage of our journey when a number of families with primary age children got on the bus, including a small Disney princess, complete with a splendid, home-made cardboard crown!
We arrived at the health centre with ten minutes to spare, despite Granddaughter Number One’s anxiety levels growing higher with every bus stop the bus stopped at. Once in the health centre we sat around for a good half hour or more after her appointment time before her name was called. So it goes!
Fortunately my daughter was able to pick us up afterwards. So we had no need to do a return bus-ride in rush hour.
Such has been my Monday.
Life goes on. Stay safe and well, everyone!
