Mist and sun. Being back Boris? Galicia on the telly.

Season of mists and … all that sort of thing!

It was very misty first thing this morning but once the sun came over the hill the mist soon disappeared. The weathermen say there will be sunny intervals for the rest of the day and a minimum chance of rain. I have to say that the current arrangement of most of the rain falling overnight suits me fine.

As the governmental chaos in the country continues and people speculate that the Prime Minister is maybe hiding under her desk, some are asking whether there to be a Boris Johnson comeback. Apparently that is a serious possibility for some who now regret pushing him out. Hilaire Belloc springs to mind:

“Always keep a-hold of nurse,

For fear of finding something worse.”

Which is better (or worse), hiding in a fridge or hiding under a desk?

Michael Rosen has resurrected his Johnson missives:

Dear Mogg

As Bismarck said, 'Après moi, le déluge' by which he meant that he would always win the downhill toboggan races. So it is with me. I will always come out on top. Watch the snakes eating each others' legs off only for me to step into the breeches.

Jove non gove

Boris

We’ll see what happens, but with each twist and turn of the tale I find myself again and again glad not to be a young person just setting out on the adventure of independent life.

Our adventures will take us back to Portugal next month. I wonder how quickly, or slowly, we’ll make it through security checks. I speculated recently on the various adverts tempting pensioners to escape from winter fuel bills to go to Greece and other such warmer places. How will we all be affected by the 90 days out of 180 stay in Europe rule. Here’s an article about how they might check up on where we have all been.

Meanwhile, on the recommendation of a friend we have begun watching a Spanish series called “Un Asunto Privado”. The friend said she had enjoyed it and thought we might be interested because it is supposedly set in Vigo, where we have spent a lot of time in the last decade or so. Vigo seems  a more elegant city, she commented, than she had imagined it to be. Well, so far the elegance has been more Pontevedra than Vigo. Of Vigo we have seen the port with its cranes and a rather nice shot of the alameda, the Avenida de Compostela. We are reserving judgement on the series, a murder mystery, at the moment. It deals with serious issues: a murder, possible police cover-up, women’s position in society, especially the right or not to be a police officer and so on, but it is also a bit farcical and almost cartoonish - running over rooftops in high heels and other such silliness! We shall see!

Life goes on. Stay safe and well, everyone!
