Heatwave update!

It’s very odd to see the usually cheerful weathermen on the TV putting on serious faces to tell us how hot it’s going to be. We spoke to our son this morning. It’s quite a lot hotter where he is in Buckinghamshire than it is up here on Greater Manchester but tomorrow we might see a bit of levelling up! He told us his daughter’s school is closed tomorrow and Tuesday. It’s hardly worth their opening again on Wednesday as they break up for summer on Thursday. I’ve heard of some schools staying open to avoid the risk of their pupils marauding around the hot streets or going wild swimming in dangerous places. The cynic in me says that school which are closing are mainly doing so to avoid any blame going their way any children suffer heatstroke!

Here’s a little, something I found about the hot weather situation:

“Meteorologists have given an 80% chance of the mercury topping the UK’s record temperature of 38.7C, set in Cambridge in 2019 – with the current heatwave set to peak on Tuesday.

The UK’s first red extreme heat warning has been issued across a large part of England from London to Manchester and York on Monday and Tuesday, while an amber warning initially covers all of England on Sunday and extends to southern Scotland and Wales from Monday until Tuesday.

The UK Health Security Agency has increased its heat health warning from level three to level four, which is described as a “national emergency”.

Climate attribution scientist at the Met Office, Dr Nikos Christidis, has said the 40C prediction is a result of climate change.

Also, Londoners to be urged against travelling on Monday and Tuesday.

Worrying

All a bit worrying right?

Well not if you are Dominic Raab. He appeared on Sky News and said we: “We ought to enjoy the sunshine”.”

So that’s okay. If Dominic Raab says we should enjoy the sunshine … those of us who are taking precautions must all be snowflakes.

Meanwhile, the local coop store has completely sold out of ice-cream! I have warned the family members whoa re coming to tea that of they want ice-cream with their strawberries they need to bring their own. My daughter says she has ice-cream for is all!! Hurrah!!

Life goes on. Stay safe and well, everyone!
