So now the storm has a name: Claudia! She’s quite a fierce lady. My Spanish sister posts pictures of a “stormy sunrise” and Granddaughter Number One protests that it”s “blowing a gale out there” - thousands of miles apart and suffering the same weather system!
It was lashing with rain first thing but later the sun tried to break through. Breakers roll out on the ocean and there is some disturbed seabed sand discolouring the water.
Dodging the rain yesterday we finally ventured to the refurbished, modernised restaurant Caçarola 1. Very smart but possibly too smart, losing some of its charm. Their fish soup was as good as ever but many of the other dishes seemed to be a little overpriced and rather smaller portions - a bit nouvelle cuisine perhaps - and they did not have my favourite dessert, a kind of crème brûlée with fruits of the forest! All in all a rather disappointing experience! And we can’t try out it’s partner restaurant, Caçarola 2 as they are closed for holidays until November 19th, by which time we will be far away and in another country.
Weather permitting, today we’ll go back to O Cais do Heleno. I say weather permitting because it’s a longish walk to the railway station end of town.
In the foyer of our hotel they are constructing a Christmas tree. Two young women are attaching branches and opening them out to build a realistic looking tree which will not drop pine needles everywhere. Curious enterprise! Further progress to be reported tomorrow.
It seems that in Japan they have been having problems with bears. A record 13 people have died in bear attacks in Japan this year – with experts blaming food shortages as the animals venture further into residential areas. But according to this article people’s anxiety is being increased by a flurry of AI generated images and videos of people interacting with bears or images of bears attacking places.
AI is causing all sorts of unexpected problems.
Life goes on. Stay safe and well, everyone!
