When we were out and about yesterday I noticed that the temperature announcement outside a chemist’s shop told us it was 27 degrees, which is a little high for November. This morning early it was cooler than yesterday but since the sun broke through, maybe it will warm up again.
This morning I ran along the sea front and back via the various boardwalks onto the dedicated cycle/pedestrian which runs from here to nearby Buarcos. My photo of the sun beginning to emerge through he clouds looks more like an evening than a morning photo - the strange result of taking a photo into the sun.
We walked a good distance yesterday looking for a cash machine (successfully) and then renewing our acquaintance with the restaurant O Cais do Heleno. We had grilled dourada, which I think is sea bream.
The fish is always good at that restaurant, where they usually serve whatever they have managed to get fresh that day. Not a set menu, it varies from day to day. The downside is that they sometimes run out of the fish you might have selected.
It is quite far from the sea front and probably doesn’t get big tourist trade as a result. On balance, this is probably no bad thing as we have known small family run places lose some of their charm as they become too commercial.
Sunset last night was quite spectacular.
Coffee in hotel breakfast rooms is often disappointing. The best we have had was at the Hotel Juan Carlos I in Sanxenxo, where they gave each table a fresh pot of coffee. That’s perhaps one reason for its many stars. In our hotel here they have a fancy machine with a vast array of choices of coffee types. It’s quite confusing. By the time you have read all the options the display disappears and you are back to square one. The best I’ve come up with so far is an “americano” to which I then add some warm milk.
My italian friend always complains about the cost of coffee in the UK, along with the fact that the so-called coffee is adulterated with toffee, vanilla and goodness knows what else.
However, according to this article coffee is sold too cheaply, from growers to those who make the stuff sold to the public that is.
It seems that the younger generation would prefer to do something other than grown and harvest coffee beans!
Life goes on. Stay safe and well, everyone!
