Storms and problems and odd animals.

Storm Bert was battering away at the skylight windows this morning so I turned off the alarm and stayed in bed for a little longer. There have been conflicting weather forecasts: it’s going to get milder but wetter / there’s going to be more snow / Storm Bert will bring heavy rain and strong winds. Good grief! Meteorology is clearly a very inexact science!

In any case, this is not the right moment for Granddaughter Number One’s heating system to go on the blink. Anxious at the best of times, faced with the possibility of the boiler gurgling noisily, maybe emitting fumes, she contemplated sitting up all night, and worried about freezing! The joys of independent living!

Skimming through the papers online, trying to avoid further news of impending world disasters - not really possible to do - i came across Young Country Diary, where young people write about things they have seen while out and about. This one wrote about having seen a black squirrel. Who knew that such a thing exists? I thought at first it might be he consequence of some kind of environmental pollution but it turns put that black squirrels have been here since 1912, possible having escaped from somebody’s exotic animal collection. And they are related to grey squirrels, of which we have an abundance around here.

We are rushing through November and I am slowly, reluctantly beginning to think about Christmas presents. Who is visiting and when, which dates have we organised to meet friends for lunch here and there, even details of what we’ll all eat on Christmas day, those things are under control. Choosing suitable presents for the various grandchildren is a different matter. And I am heartily sick of adverts for Black Friday deals! But there it is.

Life goes on. Stay safe and well, everyone!
