Another Thursday with an early morning start. The small boy and I picked raspberries in the garden. That was the extent of our adventuring today. We did have fun with play-do though!
We had an old friend round for tea before he and Phil went off to chess club together. Then I went for an evening stroll round the village, meeting the heron by the millpond. At the moment the early evening is often the best part of the day weatherwise.
I came across some new vocabulary: “destinationists” and “directionalists”. Apparently the world is split into these two groups, “directionalists” and “destinationists”. This is important in the area of fighting climate change. Directionalists, it seems, back any solution that takes us towards the final goal. In climate, this means they support anything that puts a notable dent in emissions. Destinationists are less flexible: they have an ideal outcome in mind. They block and reject anything that doesn’t fit their perfect vision. If they want to see a car-less world, they push against electric vehicles (EVs), even if they would cut emissions by a lot.
And while the two groups bicker, we will not get a solution. It’s odd how the right wing can usually put their differences aside but the left, and I count climate change activists as people of the left, somehow manage to argue among themselves! Crazy! It only helps the climate change deniers.
Another crazy thing is the world of fashion. Here’s an article about people making money out of buying expensive clothes, often at cut rate in sales, and then hiring them out to people who want something fancy for a special occasion. Who’d have thought you could do such a thing? But I suppose it makes sense.
That’s all. I’m off to watch the summary of today’s Tour de France activity.
Life goes on. Stay safe and well, everyone!
