Sunday stuff!

We’ve had another family invasion day today. My Spanish sister is staying here. Our great niece, granddaughter of our older sister, had been unable to see her great aunt when she was visiting the family in Southport as she, the great niece, had been on holiday in Egypt. So she drove over here and we had a big family lunch put together in Dobcross.

The pub-restaurant, when I phoned to book a table the other day, had asked if we could email them our food order, as we were a big party and they had another big party due in not long after us and didn’t want to overwhelm the cook. Aren’t restaurant cooks supposed to be able to deal with that sort of thing? Anyway as some of the party was not immediately available we couldn’t email the order. Instead we looked up their menu online and tried to ensure everyone knew in advance what they wanted. And so we ordered almost as soon as we sat down. All went well.

Afterwards the two oldest members of our party, my sister and I, walked home while the rest went by car. We could have fitted in the cars but wanted to stretch our legs and walk our lunch off. All good.

What we need to do now is to arrange a taxi to collect my sister at some silly hour on Tuesday morning so that she can catch a plane at about 7.30 - the only plane available to fly one of the airports near her home town, without having to to travel to one of the London airports for departure. The north-south divide seems to continue!

Meanwhile  over in France trouble appear to be continuing. According to reports more than 40 officers were injured, 577 vehicles torched, 74 buildings set on fire and 871 fires lit in streets and other public spaces on Saturday night. However they seem to think that the massive police presence had “made for a quieter night”. Goodness knows what might have happened otherwise!

All of this must be playing havoc with the French tourist industry.

Life goes on. Stay safe and well, everyone!
