Yesterday hundreds (well, it looked like hundreds!) of people dressed up in Santa costumes and ran through Uppermill. It was the annual Santa Dash. It’s one of those things that have become traditional around here. The Santa-Dashers have to register, probably with the Round Table but I’m not certain, and I think it raises money for charity. A bit of local colour.
For the last I don’t know how many years we have also had a parade of tractors on Christmas Eve. Local farmers decked their tractors with lights and tinsel and inflatable Christmas figures and drove musically/noisily through the various Saddleworth villages. Quite a spectacle! This was another event organised must likely by the local Round Table. Farmers had to register so that the police knew how much disruption to traffic was likely to take place. Apparently over the last few years some farmers have just joined in without registering, causing unnecessary extra havoc on the roads. Consequently this year it’s not taking place! Such a shame!
Today began fine and dry. I ran round the village without being rained on, but there were still plenty of muddy places around. By early afternoon the rain began again. So it goes!
And as I moan about the occasional rain here, I think of the people who are trying to deal with rain and wind and the inevitable mud in camps like these.
Here’s a link to an article about the ongoing situation for Palestinians in Gaza.
And here’s a cartoon that made me give a wry smile.
Life goes on.stay safe and well, everyone!
