Another week begins.
Now, what’s going on in the USA?
A friend of mine posted a photo of a notice that read:
“They want you so worried about men transitioning to women that you won’t notice the USA transitioning to the USSR”.
Is that happening?
Then I saw this headline: “Miami Beach mayor moves to evict theater operator for showing Oscar-winner 'No Other Land'.”
On a regular basis one friend or another finds a cartoon where a librarian is given a list of banned books which is then passed on to a high school teacher who gives it as a set-books reading list to her class.
They (that anonymous, mysterious entity known as “they”) are trying to control leisure activities. And I’m pretty sure it’s not just in the USA.
Protesting isn’t really a leisure activity but it’s being controlled just about everywhere it seems. Over in the USA there is the case of Mahmoud Khalil, facing deportation from the USA, despite having the all-important green card, for leading pro-Palestinian student protests. Why is it happening?
“On social media, Donald Trump declared that the arrest was part of his promised campaign to deport international students who participated in pro-Palestinian protests. The administration broadly perceives pro-Palestinian protesters to be antisemitic Hamas sympathizers. Trump has already promised that Khalil’s would be the “first arrest of many to come’.
Then there’s the taking over Canada question. Here’s something I found:
“Oh, Canada, we are so very, very sorry.
Again, SORRY!
Through good times and bad, you’ve been a trusted and valued neighbour.
Actually, so much more.
Please know that the current mess doesn’t represent your good friemds in the south.
Really it’s just one guy who’s responsible for the problem.
We’re working on it.,
Sincerely, America.”
And there’s a story going round that France wants the Statue of Liberty to be returned to them. Here are some things from Americans (I presume) on social media:
“Here’s the thing everyone on the right seems to be missing about this: the Statue of Liberty was given to the US as a symbol of our alliance since the American revolution and our ideals surrounding liberty and democracy..
The USA has been down-graded to a “non-democracy”.
We are on he human rights watch list.
This is why France is asking for the statue back.
And this is why understanding history is NECESSARY?”
“Since then, the Statue of Liberty has become a symbol of justice, freedom and democracy. The United States no longer represents anybof these.”
There it is!
Now to see if the system will allow me to post this blog without the problems that my iPad has been throwing at me over the last few days.
Life goes on. Stay safe and well, everyone!
