Out and about on Thursday.

Well, today I managed once again to run round the village without getting wet. (There’s a lot of water around so it must have rained hard again overnight.) The wind was still cold though. I met one of the regular dog-walkers who noticed that I had my beanie hat on, with my running top hood pulled up, also wooly gloves, and she lamented the fact that she had come out without hat or gloves. She was a little over-optimistic about the weather, she commented, but she’s fed up of being constantly wrapped up. I think it will be a while yet before we really feel we can shed our winter layers.

Even Granddaughter Number Two, who is famous within the family for not feeling the cold, told me that she found the wind rather icy today. She arrived here midmorning. I had been expecting her to arrive sooner, judging by the message she sent to tell me she was on the bus. Apparently the bus-driver stopped three times along the route for several minutes, with no rational explanation. Surely he must have been late all along his route after that!

Anyway, Granddaughter Number Two arrived in time for a second breakfast. At about 1.15 we walked along the Donkey Line to the Lime kiln cafe, for coffee and cake, before walking back along the main road to the school where Grandson Number Two attends pre-school. From there we caught the bus home, stopping en route along he last stretch from the bus stop to home, to admire the fish in the pond outside the pub next door!

Some time later their mother and sister, Granddaughter Number Four, arrived. As a rule we have an egg-themed snack tea on a Thursday: egg sandwiches for some, scrambled eggs on toast for others. This is to expedite Phil’s departure for chess club. This evening, however, he has not gone out - coughing too hard - so we had a more leisurely pizza for most people, even though Granddaughter Number Two was under the impression it was all for her (!), and noodles with tomatoes for others. And of course, olives and salad and other accompaniments.

Not quite a usual Thursday, but a good day on the whole.

Life goes on. Stay safe and well, everyone!
