Thursday’s indoor stuff!

It’s been another rather indoor Thursday. The small boy came for the day as usual and we had every intention of going puddle-stomping at some point in the day. First we had some serious playing to do, towers to build with wooden blocks, cars to construct from Mecano and a ridiculous game involving hairclips, the kind of large, claspy affairs that you can use to pin your hair on top of your head to keep it out of the way while you are involved in some mind of cleaning activity. In today’s case they became Venus fly traps after we saw some rather fly-trap-like plants on a children’s TV programme about dinosaurs. We followed that up with finding pictures of actual Venus fly-trap plants on the computer and then got into the complicated game.

After a mid-morning second breakfast we waited for his big sister to arrive on the bus. We often meet her in the village or at the park and have a picnic lunch but today it was raining so hard that she stayed on the bus, bought a few essentials at the coop and walked here in the rain. Later the sun came out and the sky was briefly blue. By the time we had manhandled the small boy halfway into his puddle-stomping gear, however, the moment had passed and the rain had returned. And, boy! how it rained! We put all the puddle-stomping gear away and resigned ourselves to indoor activities.

My Fitbit will be seriously disappointed - no exercise goals or step goals are being met today!

I did, however, get my paint box out again this evening, for the first time this year, indeed the first time since we returned from our sojourn in Portugal. It’s not lack of inspiration - I have a series of snapshots I want to turn into paintings as part of my chronicling life in and after lockdown - but rather a lack of the kind of complete quiet  needed to sit down for a couple of hours with the paintbox.

It’s like the various sorting put jobs I have listed for myself - I keep finding other things to do. There’s music to listen to and books to read. Somit goes.

Life goes on. Stay safe and well, everyone!
