Confusion all over the place. Hugging? Is it wrong to buy Argentinean prawns? Spring!

Oh dear! According to Angela Rayner, voters didn’t know what Starmer stands for. Surely it’s a failing on his part if he has not made himself clear. Of course, it’s quite possible he is not sure himself quite what he stands for, apart from not being Jeremy Corbyn! This is part of what she said:-

“Keir’s done a very good job of being a constructive opposition. And he’s tried to do that. And the challenge that we face now is about what do we stand for? And what we put forward? And that’s what I heard on the doorstep. It was: ‘Well, okay, Keir Starmer is not Jeremy Corbyn, the party’s on the new leadership, what do you stand for?’”

So perhaps the party needs to decide what it stands for and make sure that the voters know. Something needs to be done!

People are easily confused as it is without political parties not giving clear messages.

I read something yesterday about the relaxation of restrictions in England, all about everyone getting excited about being able to hug again. “But here is the rub: there is no hugging ban, and there never has been. As long as they’ve been outdoors, at any point in the past year people in England have had a right to hug whomever they want. But the confusion over what was illegal and what was merely discouraged meant people saw it as a ban.” But whenever there has been a governmental or advisorial pronouncement nobody has actually said it’s okay to hug and so people, who are mostly very law-abiding, understood that it was no longer a legal activity. This is the kind of thing that led to the sort of confusion where policemen warned people not to sit or stand too close to each other, and even to tell children not to build snowmen in parks.

There’s enough serious confusion going on in the world without anyone adding to it.

It’s Wednesday again and so I have once more cycled off to Uppermill, working out just how much stuff I can fit in the paniers of my bike without making riding impossible or causing the bike to fall over. It’s a bit like a Tetris puzzle! Maybe it was the morning sunshine that caused it but there seemed to be quite a lot of people put and about this morning. There were queues at every stall.

Last week the fishman gave me a sample Argentinean prawn to try. Delicious! He was offering them to all his regular customers, promising that he would have them on sale this week. So I planned this evening’s meal around these tasty prawns. And then he let me down. They won’t be available until next week. Another bit of confusion in the world!

By the way, why is he selling prawns from Argentina. What is their environmental footprint? Should I even consider buying them? Oh, dear!

However, in the meantime the sun keeps shining, albeit intermittently, and the spring flowers are coming on nicely.

Life goes on. Stay safe and well, everyone!
